On the 9th July 2014, the Government of Malta and the Government of the China signed a 5-year Medium-Term Cooperation Plan which is anticipated to bolster cooperation between the two countries and which comprises the first formal Medium-Term Cooperation Plan that China has signed with a European country.
In terms of the Cooperation Plan, Malta and China will cooperate in the financial services sector, encouraging financial institutions within their respective jurisdictions to operate in each other’s territories.
Other areas covered by the Cooperation Plan include, inter alia, civil aviation, energy, infrastructure, tourism and cultural cooperation.
