Malta was elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for the tenth consecutive time. The IMO Council is the executive body tasked to oversee and supervise the entire operation of the organisation and is made up of forty members elected from the 170 participating member states.
Malta boasts the largest ship register in Europe and the sixth largest worldwide
In the election, held at the IMO Headquarters in London during the 29th session of the General Assembly of the IMO, which took place between the 23rd November and 2nd December, Malta positioned in third place, behind Singapore and Turkey.
